Join me for another episode of Firefighter Wellness Radio on Fire Engineering blog talk December 12th 19:30EST. We have an amazing guest this episode who is Attorney and Deputy Assistant Chief Curt Varone. Curt Varone has over 40 years of fire service experience and 30 as a practicing attorney licensed in both Rhode Island and Maine. His background includes 29 years as a career firefighter in Providence Fire Department (retiring as a Deputy Assistant Chief), as well as volunteer and paid on call experience. He is the author of two books: Legal Considerations for Fire and Emergency Services, (2006, 2nd ed. 2011, 3rd ed. 2014) and Fire Officer's Legal Handbook (2007), and is a contributing editor for Firehouse Magazine writing the Fire Law column. I'll be speaking with Curt about the potential legal ramifications of addiction in Fire and EMS. The possible penalties if you have an accident on a rig under the influence as well as the possible penalties if you are diverting medications for your habit. We will be discussing if you are why it's essential to self-report before you get caught. What if you have been prescribed the drug and it's mood altering, and you have an accident? Your ADA and FMLA protections for entering a treatment program. I hope you are looking forward to this episode as much as I am. If you have somthing you want me to ask Curt then please leave in description or call into the show.
